Ramsey parents and staff submitted a proposal directly to the MPS school board members in response to the School Change Options, that gave an overview of what fine arts education would look like.  You can read the proposal here.  Read a draft of the mission & vision that parents & staff also created last year when administration failed to address this issue.
 
In September, the MPS Board of Education determined that Ramsey would be a fine arts education magnet, and directed that administration use community engagement to shape and determine what our community would look like.
 
To date (December 23) school administration has failed, once again, to provide open conversations and involve parents & staff in the decision making process - with less than 40 days to school choice time, this is unacceptable.  ONCE AGAIN, the parents must step up and take the lead on this important issue.  We, the stakeholders, of this mission and community need to take the lead and be engaged in ongoing conversations about what is best for OUR children, and how best to serve our needs.
 
Parents have worked a tremendous amount of hours on these issues - advocating for better curriculums, fine arts, and the environment at the school in general.  The District has promised accountability, transparency, and equity - we don't see it, do you?
 

The parents and staff at Ramsey are a unique community.  Aside from the cultural and economic diversity represented at the school, our common thread is a love for fine arts, and a belief that an education that includes fine arts integration is the best education a child can receive.
 
The PTO & Foundation provide this space for parents and staff to connect.  It's a meeting place.  An opportunity to discuss, review, and share.
 
Keeping in mind that we can not be all things to all people, but we can focus on what we have in common and how that relates to the big picture -- we can do great things.  We can be that which we expect from others...
